After the success of the SEA ME project, Nienke decided to continue the research on how to use seaweed to create a more sustainable textile industry. As an ongoing research project, she transforms seaweed into natural dyes and yarns. The color palette is surprisingly broad – with colors from green and brown – to pink and purple. In 2020 Nienke became the co-founder of Zeefier, a company focussing on upscaling these processes to make them available for the entire textile industry.
