Bare Bones

BARE BONES

The Bare Bones project is an ongoing research project on the origin of the animal bones in relation to the quality of bone china. Hoogvliet learned from a porcelain expert that the quality of bone of industry kept animals today is too poor to create a good quality of bone china. The living conditions of these animals would be too poor to still get a good quality of bone.  Therefore, Nienke decided to compare the qualities of different types of bone derived from organic and bio-industrially kept animals for the production of bone china. Together with scientists of the University of Wageningen she hopes to answer her main question:

Do bones of an organically grown animal result to a better quality of bone china then bio-industry grown animals?

Important is to understand why the quality of organic animal bone might result in a better quality of bone china and what this quality says about the quality of life of the animal. For example, can we analyze if the animal has moved enough or had enough living space? Can we trace back if the animal has been given an excessive amount of antibiotics? What can we tell by their bones? And what is the effect on us meat-eating-humans?

Sneak preview of our new project for @circulairwar Sneak preview of our new project for @circulairwarenhuis, a second hand shop in Leiden (NL). Every year they receive 130.000 kg of textiles of which only 12.000 kg can be sold. How can all the other textiles find a new purpose? And what is more important the quality or the quantity of recycling? This question caused quite some dilemmas: is the recycling of synthetic materials truely the best option? We don’t think so. More info soon.
